General Questions:

What’s so special about Creamery ice cream?

We love ice cream, but we love the science behind it even more. By supporting the Berkey Creamery, you’re also supporting food science, the dairy industry and agriculture across Pennsylvania and beyond—our work has an impact on teaching, research and industry across the globe.

Where else can I buy Creamery ice cream?

We directly distribute products in our online and campus store, in the dining halls, and on several Commonwealth campuses. There are also several ice cream shops across Pennsylvania who purchase Creamery ice cream independently and sell it for retail.

Why don’t you sell all the flavors at once?

We normally scoop about 24 flavors in our on-campus store. Availability of each flavor depends on several factors, like the season, customer demand and whether we are able to source quality ingredients. If you haven’t seen your favorite flavor in a while, feel free to send us a suggestion.



Our rich ice cream has a carefully maintained butterfat content of 14.1 percent for a delicious, rich mouth feel.

Ingredients / Sourcing:

About 70% of the milk we use comes from the University Dairy Production Center’s 210 cow herd. The rest is purchased from local milk suppliers. Creamery ice cream is so fresh that on average, only four days elapse between the cow and your newly dipped cone.

Our dairy products contain only the very best ingredients: fresh milk and cream, of course, pure vanilla from Madagascar, fruit and nuts from the Pacific Northwest.


The Creamery has always been concerned with producing only the highest quality products and serving them in the safest manner possible.

To continue this tradition, we want to provide valuable information to customers with food allergies.

The following food allergens are used in our production areas: Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts, Peanuts, Coconut, Soybeans, Wheat, Eggs, Milk, and Food Dyes Blue 1, Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6.

Allergens are also noted on the product ingredients list.

Payment Options:

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. At this time, we regret that we are unable to accept Creamery gift cards for online purchases. Your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase and shipped according to the dates you select during checkout.

If for any reason an item or entire order cannot be fulfilled by the requested fulfillment date, we will contact you to discuss alternate delivery options or cancel and refund your order.

Sales Tax:

We apply a standard 6% tax rate to in-state deliveries. Out of state deliveries are not subject to sales tax.

Discount Codes:

You may enter coupon or discount codes at the time of checkout. Codes will be applied to your order before payment processing.

Phone Orders:

We’re happy to take your order over the phone. Phone orders are treated with the same care and priority as online ones, and they ship just as quickly.

Gift Cards:

Gift cards cannot purchased online. Gift cards are sold at the University Park, PA store and for use in our store only. At this time, we regret that gift cards cannot be used for online purchases. If you have questions about a current gift card, such as current balance, please contact us for assistance.

Order Status:

To see the status of your order, log in to your account and enter your order number and billing zip code.

Canceling an Order:

If you need to cancel an order, please contact us by phone as soon as possible at 814-865-7535.

Returns and Refunds:

We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase from the Berkey Creamery. If you have a problem with your order, you may file a claim for perishable items, or initiate a return for non-perishables. If you have any questions about your shipment, or wish to file a claim, please feel free to call our customer service number, 814-865-7535. Before calling, please read the following regarding returns and claims:

Perishable items:

In order to be eligible for a refund for ice cream, cheese, and other perishable food items, you must file a claim within 24 hours of receiving your shipment. To file your claim, call our customer service line at 814-865-7535. Please note that we cannot be responsible for product damage due to:

  • Weather or “act of God” circumstances.
  • Incorrect or incomplete delivery information, including incorrect or incomplete address. Make sure to include apartment numbers and other information as needed. Shipments not opened in a timely manner. Perishable items are clearly marked as such, but if sending as a gift, you may wish to notify the recipient of the nature of shipment contents. The inability of the recipient to receive the package, due to being away from home, etc. You should always check to make sure the person who is responsible for receiving shipments will be in town and available at the time of delivery.

Non-perishable items

A claim or refund may be requested for non-perishable items within 60 days from your original order date. Please contact customer service at 814-865-7535 to discuss your claim.

The Creamery ships ice cream, cheese, and other products from the heart of Happy Valley to all 48 continental United States. As a result of our quality standards for dairy products, we are not able to ship internationally.


Our shipping fees are displayed at the time of checkout and vary according to the type of product purchased, delivery address, and desired shipment method.

To ensure that your order is fresh when it reaches your door, we require different transportation methods, packaging materials, and minimum ship times for different product types. As a result, the cost of your shipment will vary by the contents of your order to ensure your order arrives fresh!.


In general, orders ship within 1-2 days of placement. Orders placed before 11:00 AM EST may ship as soon as same-day. Orders placed after 11:00 AM EST may ship as early as the following day.

Delivery Days & Dates:

To make sure you receive your ice cream, cheese, and other perishable items in ideal condition, we only offer delivery of these items on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

No need to worry about calculating a delivery date yourself! When you enter your shipping address at checkout, a calendar will automatically show you estimated delivery dates for your order. Simply select your preferred shipping method and date from the options shown.

Although we do our very best to honor your chosen estimated delivery date, we cannot guarantee it. Factors like bad weather and unusually heavy route traffic are out of our control. However, we will make sure your order is packaged to allow for reasonable delays without affecting quality.

Creamery shipments will be delivered to your doorstep. You do not need to be at home or sign for your shipment.

Shipping to Multiple Locations:

For your convenience, we allow you to split your order for shipment to as many addresses as you like. You do not have to re-enter payment information for each address—we’ll only ask you to enter it once for the entire order.

Sending a Gift:

If you wish to send a shipment as a gift, simply select that option during checkout. Orders sent as gifts will show no prices on the packing list, only a list of items included.

If you indicate a shipment is a gift, you will be offered the option to include a gift message.

Packing Lists & Prices:

Our packing lists do not contain prices. They are simply a list of items purchased. Your receipt is included in the confirmation email sent after your online order is placed.

Ice Cream Cooler:

Your ice cream cooler is packed with dry ice and insulated to withstand 48 hours of travel. It contains the ice cream you have ordered as well as bricks of dry ice. When unpacking your cooler, take care with the dry ice. Read our safety tips below.

Safety tips for using dry ice:

  • Never let your bare skin come into contact with dry ice. It can cause painful burning!
  • Only store and use dry ice in a well-ventilated area. Inhaling high concentrations of carbon dioxide gas can cause nausea, headaches, and even unconsciousness. When transporting in a vehicle, put the dry ice in your trunk and crack the windows.
  • To safely dispose of dry ice, let it evaporate in a well-ventilated area away from children and pets.
  • Do not consume dry ice in its frozen form. However, once it has vaporized into a drink, it is safe to consume.
  • Do not use dry ice in glass, crystal, or plastic containers, as they may crack from the extreme cold.

Ideas for your Styrofoam ice cream cooler:

  • Recycle it. You may need to consult your local recycling service to be sure they accept foam. If not, consider these options:
  • Use for storage. Keep your cooler in the trunk of your car, garage or basement, for a temperature-resistant storage option.
  • Use for transportation or shipping. You can carry or ship items that need cushioning or temperature protection, like food or plants.
  • Get creative. Styrofoam coolers are light and relatively durable. They can become outdoor housing for pets, small end tables, and art projects. Use your imagination!

Cheese box Information:

Your cheese will come in heat-resistant packaging, including a refreeze brick, to protect it for approximately 24 hours of travel. Upon receiving your shipment, refrigerate your cheese. The refreeze brick can be refrozen and reused.

Our website inventory and retail store inventory are in separate locations, and we cannot guarantee that all flavors available on the website are also available in the retail store. Please call 814-865-7535 to confirm retail store availability.

Creating an Account:

Creating a Creamery account helps you easily manage orders and payment. You can view your order history, maintain an address book for shipments and gifts, and save your preferred payment methods. If you choose not to create an account, you can still place your order as a guest.
