Our current facility is located in the same building as the Creamery store.
- We have a receiving bay where the milk is shipped to us in tankers.
- The lab
tests the milk from the tanker before it goes into the holding tank.
- Once we have received the okay from the lab, the milk is processed and sent to various locations to produce numerous products to be consumed on campus, sold from the store and via the internet.
These locations include the milk processing area, ice cream area, and cultured products room. Each location has responsibilities that contribute to the Creamery's success.
All visitors, contractors, and employees of Penn State Berkey Creamery, are required to follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) while in the processing, warehouse, and maintenance areas of our plant. These requirements help assure safe food production in our plant.
